FinOps, it is go time!

The FinOps market in Belgium is still incubating. Customers are surely progressing towards more cloud adoption. However, as Belgians, we tend to move slowly in adopting any new technology for that matter.

My journey as a freelancer has become one of falling down getting back up, dusting off and getting back on my feet and continuing the path. I decided not to take the easier road but to focus on something that I truly believe is a missing piece in many cloud-adopting enterprises.

How can you adopt the cloud with confidence if you don’t really look at the money spent in the cloud? How can you adopt the cloud if you don’t know if you are getting the right bang for your buck? How can you explain a cloud-first program without the right governance in place?

These are only 3 questions I ask myself daily when talking to customers and partners. I can think of 10 more. Let’s have a beer maybe to exchange some ideas.

Last week I decided to leave 45 degrees at Cronos. Not because they weren’t nice to me on the contrary. I enjoyed my time at Cronos. However, I believe I need to move towards a place where there is a bigger impact to be made. As the market in Belgium is still incubating and growing we are not stumbling over 20 FinOps projects all of sudden. No, we are fishing a pound where there is still a slim amount of fish to be found. This to my surprise is strange as in these economically challenging times I would assume many companies are trying to protect the treasure chest from being drained by a cloud pirate. Apparently, there is still enough gold in the treasure chest…

To have more impact on the FinOps topic in general at customers. I was looking for an international player, focusing on multiple clouds, growing their business, building practices and searching for new business across a larger geography. Well, you can start crossing names on your shortlist by now. I got in contact with Devoteam and had some great conversations about what I was looking for and what they could offer me. Apparently, we had a match.

My role at Devoteam will be FinOps architect. Helping our own organisation and our customers put cloud financial boundaries in place. Onboarding to cloud with increased confidence. It should not come as a surprise that I’m working with the FinOps Foundation framework as a standard as this is the most widely deployed framework at this moment.

Really thrilled to become part of the team and cannot wait to get this show on the road! It’s GO time!
